Rainy Wednesday

Thu., December 18, 08:54 AM

It was the kind of day where no one in her right mind would go out if she didn’t have to. Especially not with weather aches and a headache from last night’s nosebleed. And I really didn’t have to go. It’s just that these non-work days are so precious right now. I may not get another chance to walk at all this week. So, despite the rain and the aches it brings, I decided to shop.

I have to admit, while walking from the car to the bank, my first stop, I did decide to shorten the itinerary. It was a hot shower I wanted.

At any rate, I did the bank, Sam’s Club, and the supermarket. I spent comparatively little, even though I found another little something for JM. His birthday is two days before U.D.’s, so I’m not likely to forget it; but I don’t know him well enough to do serious birthday gifts.

Last time I was in Sam’s, I bought a rack designed to store tapes or CD’s, and I like it well enough that I almost bought another. I don’t have a lot of tapes, having bypassed the whole craze, so this thing that will hold forty tapes will hold even more DVD’s. But the main reason I bought it was that I hoped Husband would like it well enough to ask for a couple for himself. No luck – he’d rather have them falling all over the place.

Anyway, I did more looking than buying in Sam’s. This time of year they have a lot of interesting stuff to look at, though I’m not likely to buy it now. But I’ll get ideas for later.

After Sam’s I went down to the supermarket. Mostly essentials that might have waited till Friday, always assuming that I’ll be able to go Friday. I’d rather do something different. Haircut maybe? And maybe someplace else to walk – though I hate being around shoppers at this time of year.

When I got home, I carried the perishables upstairs and began puttering around, because I was afraid that if I sat down I wouldn’t be able to get up. I never used to have this much trouble with plain old weather. Heck, I walked all over a campus that had perpetual bad weather. Eventually I sat down on the couch and fell asleep until U.D. came home.

Nevertheless, I’m grateful for:
