who rules the universe,
for granting us life,
sustaining us and enabling us to reach this day.
This is a Jewish prayer that is recited on the first day of holidays, as well at special times in your life, such as when your son is bar mitzvah or when a child is born. Also said when one recovers from serious illness. I call it the all-purpose prayer, because sometimes – like today – it says it all.
A rabbi once told me that it’s necessary to praise God, not because He needs it but because we do. Whether or not you’re a believer, i hope you feel thankful for something today.
