Primary Day - Addendum

Wed., September 10, 07:55 AM

When we left you yesterday – in the morning – Husband had asked about going to vote, after I had made other plans. I told him he could ask U.D.; she only works until two, but we’re not even sure he realizes she’s working again.

Sometime after five, Husband asked U.D. whether she had been to vote (she had) and requested a ride to the polls. Though she had been about to step into the shower, she said she would. And then he said, “Would you take me to Stop & Shop afterward?” “Certainly not!” Remember, she had a date.

“Well, then,” says Husband, “I don’t have to go and vote.” That’s what it was about all along. He didn’t care about voting. He wanted someone to take him to the store.

Or not. When I had gotten home, he asked me when I’m planning to go to Stop & Shop. Either today or Friday, when I’m not working, I would take him; I’ve always told him we’ll take him wherever he wants to go. But he doesn’t want to go. He wants me to buy him some more gumdrops.

He knows exactly what he wants, and he can be very devious about getting it. U.D. might not know what to buy, so he wants her to take him. I’ve bought them before, so he doesn’t need to come and show me. He’s not stupid, and he’s not even senile. He’s just lazy.

And, oh yes, our candidate won, even without Husband’s vote. Thank you for asking.
