Friday Five
August 29, 2003

Sat., August 30, 03:10 PM

I had given up doing the Friday Five because, whenever the questions were really interesting to me, I had almost always already tackled them. However, the same questions came up on my daily survey, and I thought I ought to give them a shot. And remember, these weekly questions are found at the Friday Five site.

  1. Are you going to school now?
Thank goodness I am not. I don’t have that kind of strength any more.
  2. If yes, where are you going (high school, college, etc.)? If no, when did you graduate?
I graduated from high school forty-five years ago (there’s a reunion in about six weeks). From college – I graduated in 1963. From business school – 1965.
  3. What are/were your favorite school subjects?
In high school, they were science (especially chemistry); math (especially geometry); and orchestra.
  4. What are/were your least favorite school subjects?
English and history. You may have noticed I like those subjects now. It took better teachers and a lot of experience to bring them to me. (English teachers almost destroyed my love of literature forever!)
  5. Have you ever had a favorite teacher? Why was he/she a favorite?
The closest thing to a favorite teacher wasn’t a school teacher, but my violin teacher, who understood adolescents almost as well as she understood music. The most useful teacher was the math teacher who taught us banking.
