The Eternal Jackass

Fri., August 1, 10:26 AM

It’s nauseating! I am convinced that this nation will fall, not to criminals, not to communism, but to stupidity. It’s all the more annoying because that’s something we should be able to remedy.

Unemployment figures are over six percent, but that’s okay, the “economy is improving.” Our people are being killed in a war that was declared over, but “we’re on it.” And the “villains” of the day are [flourish of trumpets] couples who love each other but don’t fit the presidential model.

Hey, Mr. Dubya! We are not all Christian. With no disrespect to those who follow Jesus, it ain’t all of us. We are not all sinners; but some of us, y’know, are responsible for other people’s sins. (Okay, that’s wordsmithing; I shouldn’t do that, but I will – over and over.) Yes, I’ve read the Bible, both Old and New Testament. Yes, I know it says things like “go forth and multiply” and “do not waste the seed.” I also know that it was written at a time when the community needed more people in order to survive. Have you checked those numbers recently?

Where did you find the concept that sex must produce babies or it’s a sin. (Are we supposed to assume that you stopped trying after the twins were born? Well, maybe that’s a good thing.)

I never thought that the Constitution was written for the purpose of controlling sex and procreation. That might have been clearer if women had written it but, since they didn’t, we have to deal with what we’ve got. Did it ever occur to you that we could have perfectly satisfactory same sex unions without calling it marriage, if some self-righteous lawyers hadn’t decided to deny those people the right just to love each other? (Yes, lawyers; their constituents may have had an opinion, but it’s lawyers who legislate.) It would not have been necessary to sue for healthcare, or hospital access to a loved one, or property rights – or anything else a spouse can get – if those same rights hadn’t already been denied.

I’m not as succinct as I’d like to be. I’m just so angry – and I think maybe prompt response is more important than perfect writing today.

One more thing – there always is one more thing – as much as I agree that Saddam Hussein is an evil being, I notice that no one yet has found the weapons of mass destruction. Maybe they’ve missed them. They weren’t looking for "...a red VW microbus with shovels and rakes and implements of destruction..."
