That’s Your Opinion

Thu., July 3, 10:37 AM

This is going to be brief, because I’m just too tired to keep fighting the same fight over and over.

The latest legislation about rights of people who are different from you has sparked comment from all over – left, right, in-between; male, female, in-between; lawyers, clergy, and everyone else. Every one of them is entitled to his or her opinion.

However, has it ever occurred to any of you that we wouldn’t need all the changes and additions to legislation if you hadn’t decided that you were going to force your values on someone else? Lifestyles among adults are no one’s business but theirs. If you don’t like it, fine. That’s your opinion.

If you truly disapprove, by all means tell your children. They have the right to be taught what you believe. Also please let them know that other people have the right to do things their own way.

If others before you had thought that way, there would have been no need for civil rights legislation (because we would automatically have accorded every person his or her civil rights). There would have been no need for Roe vs. Wade or for same sex marriage.

Don’t try to hide behind “family values.” A family is formed by love and consideration, not what someone arbitrarily defines as a family.

You are entitled to your own opinion. And as David Brinkley said, everyone is entitled to my opinion.
