Before I Go
Mon., February 17, 05:19 PM
It’s outside my understanding, that we can make such good plans and still have the roof fall in. Last time I went anywhere, I had Amtrak reservations to the airport, but thanks to wire difficulties between Washington and New Haven, the train never got here. I have traveled to and from California during an airlines strike. (That was kind of fun, actually.) We are supposed to fly to Florida tomorrow, and all of lower New England has come to a halt because of the Blizzard of ’03.
U.D. and I went to the pharmacy this morning to pick up Husband’s meds. Now she can say she has driven in a blizzard. She hopes she never has to do it again!
I’m not as worried about flying tomorrow – assuming they open the airport before midnight – as I am about Son’s driving down tonight.
I hear it’s going to be 45 degrees here on Wednesday. Told you, didn’t I? But it will snow again on the day we return.
Is anyone as upset about the anti-war demonstrations as I am? No, I don’t want to go to war. No, as much as I distrust Saddam Hussein, I don’t see enough evidence that he has the weapons described by Mr. Dubya. As you know, I don’t trust Mr. Dubya either. But watching thousands of Americans congregating to protest the war is like saying to the world, “oh no, we won’t fight, come and attack us now.” Are we making ourselves too vulnerable in our enthusiasm to be nice? I wouldn’t be this upset if I knew the answer.
Did I tell you men’s and women’s basketball is different? Even the news about them is completely different. Two stories over the weekend: One of the brightest stars of the first UConn women’s team is returning to Connecticut to play for the Mohegan Suns. It’s considered a positive move from a playing aspect as well as economically. The men’s story concerned one of the current stars from the men’s team who was arrested for assault. It sounds like a trumped up charge – she hit him first and probably would not have hit him if he weren’t in the public eye. But the perceptions of the two are so diverse.
I don’t expect to be able to update for the rest of the week, but you already know that I write a very sporadic journal. I hope I’ll come back with some good stories.
