The One Hundredth Entry – Short and Sweet

According to my profile, this is my one hundredth post. I began a mere 312 days ago. I never had the intention of making this a running story of my life, as I explained in my entry about Diaries – Then and Now. On the other hand, I got something out of Diaryland that I never expected.

As I read other diaries, I found good writing and not-so-good writing. Some people interest me, and others do not; the ones who consider themselves boring are actually among the best. But above all, I found an affinity for some writers that goes beyond what is happening in their lives, and it often surprises me. I would not have thought I’d have anything in common with… you name it. Women younger than I. (A lot younger.) Southerners – and far Northerners. Republicrats (no, I can’t put labels on people’s politics, because I know how much it’s affected by where you are – in both time and place.) Teachers and hairdressers, secretaries and housewives. As I’ve often said, we’re more alike than different.

I looked into my profile last week, because I knew I was approaching a milestone. Maybe I should make some changes, yada yada yada. To my surprise, I found the names of people who had added me as a favorite – surprise! In some cases, they were completely new to me. What a warm feeling! It’s like meeting new neighbors.

So I’m observing this record by adding names to my buddy list. I’m so pleased that people enjoy my essays.

And my mother said I couldn’t write!
