Notes from Mother's Day

Mon., May 13, 08:46 AM

It's nearly two weeks since my computer died, and we finally know what's wrong with it. (It wasn't that I couldn't trouble-shoot properly; the darn thing is really broken.)

So it needs a new mother board, but the hard drive seems to be okay, so that I will not have lost everything (again). My son drove several hours yesterday (despite severe asthma) to pick up where I left off. He took the info with him, so that he can figure out whether to replace the board or the computer -- but it's barely a year old! I'm a little annoyed with Dell, that could sell such a nice machine, only to have it fail just after the warranty ran out. (Did you ever read "The Wonderful One-Hoss Shay"?) Well, I guess added memory is not going to be a Mother's Day gift OR a birthday gift.

Anyhow, while looking in my old entries for the date of my computer's demise, I saw my entry about Heloise. Yesterday's paper had an article about her -- that is, Heloise II -- and her new book.

She was asked why she didn't have a product line a la Martha Stewart. She replied, "Why should I charge more for a soap that won't work any better than the baking soda you already have in the house?" Good girl!
