How'd I Do That?

Do I need to point out that time flies? Only a couple of years ago, I was praising Diaryland as the logical next step to my old paper diaries. But it’s only ten months since I decided to move from Diaryland.
Thanks to a generous friend, I had a Gold membership, and even as I was contemplating renewing it, the service was deteriorating. Still happy for what I had, even if it wasn’t perfect, I was awaiting news of improvements and better service; but the only news I ever received was how much time I had left on my Gold. Renew? What for? Just because it wasn’t my money didn’t mean that I wanted to waste it paying for service that wasn’t forthcoming.
So I transferred. I noticed that my benefactor transferred out as well. And over the last year, I see that more and more of my buddies are doing so. On the one hand, I feel bad, because I hate to see something that was good go bad. On the other hand, from a managerial point of view, I see a lack of capacity and a manager who doesn’t know how to attack the problem. I’m not a expert on computer matters, and I haven’t a clue as to the best way out of the bind. Sorry, Andrew, I think it’s beyond you too.
As I said, I am no expert, and it actually took four people to move “A Place of My Own.” Golfwidow orchestrated the event; she knows more experts than I do. “Clay” wrote the program that moved my old posts to the new site. “Bren” designed the new template; she knows I love blue. And "Jenn," bless her, agreed to host the new page. I purposely am not linking to any of these people, because I don’t know that they’d be willing to take on this task for the whole community of bloggers. Of course, there is lots of help available from other sites, and I read many D’landers who are knowledgeable enough to assist others.
I go back and look at my old posts – at least the ones that say something – to update links and whatever pictures I had inserted. You can’t upload pictures to D’land if you’re not Gold. (At least, they say you can’t, but I think someone fixed too much last time the servers went down; some of my links are still working.)
Of course, you can upload pictures elsewhere, and I did indeed do that a couple of times. Now, all I have to do is remember how I did it, so that I can do it again. The space is actually allotted to me by my ISP, so I might as well use it.
This handsome young fellow

is my nephew Mike. Mike has returned to school after spending some time in that dangerous part of Asia Minor – y’know, the place where things are going “so well.” He’s also part of a new internet marketing site, Networker Cafe. I don’t know whether any of my readers could profit from this enterprise, but you might want to take a look at it.
Did that work? How’d I do that?
Adding a new entry to D’land is often blocked – even when all I want to post is a line telling you that I updated on my new page. However, I do have a notify list, although I haven’t yet figured out how to publicize it on my template. Therefore, if you would like to be notified without gambling on when I can “page you” from D’land, just leave me a comment or e-mail me, and I will add your name to the list.
