Button, Button

You may have noticed a new button on my page. Merci Boutique is a source for various handmade gifts, objects that are both attractive and unusual. I’m jumping the gun a little, since it’s not quite ready for business. But it’s not too soon to sign up for the newsletter or to take a quick look at the artists whose work will be on display.
No sooner did the Merci Boutique button appear than I got other requests. I had to laugh. It’s not just the scarcity of readers, although I assure you, I know that neither “Kevin and Kell” nor “Music of Your Life” is overrun with traffic due to my support. More to the point, the networking of the journal world is such that anyone who reads my page – when I actually add something – is more likely to read the issue of the day at one of my buddies.
All right, smarty, then why did you add the button for Merci Boutique? It’s not just a question of friendship. Some of these ladies designed and continue to maintain my page for me. The very least I can do is offer them a bit of advertising space.
The second issue is a different kind of thing altogether. Even though I’m not adding a button, I will tell you about it. I’ve signed the petition (it doesn’t say l’empress), but I’m not pressuring anyone else to do likewise.
The subject is “Munchausen by Proxy,” a psychological disorder in which a parent makes a child sick in order to gain attention for the parent. This particular case, a woman who has abused foster children in her care, is described in greater detail with the petition to have Oprah Winfrey do a program about the matter.
Please note, the petition is not about punishing the woman or changing laws, although those results might occur. The petition is simply to persuade Oprah to look into the case, to have her experts evaluate it and publicize it. Oprah is known to be an advocate for children, and these seem to be children who need help from someone. I don’t watch her show regularly; I don’t know how she would do this. However, I believe she has the power to compel those in charge to examine the facts.
Sometimes we can help, sometimes we can’t. But it really would be a shame if we could do something and didn’t. It doesn’t cost you a thing to sign your name.
Today’s illogic: The third button request refers to body modification pages, journals and newsfeed. Personally, I find these offensive. Body modification means not only to tattoos, but to ultra piercings and scarifications and more. No button, no link. If you really want them, I will provide them for you.
