How Old Am I? So Old...

Mon., June 4, 11:22 AM

Another quiz is making the rounds, I guess. This version came from the purple chai. She is not nearly as old as I am. I have written about these subjects before, and half the fun of doing this particular meme was looking up the old links. (Yay, Movable Type's search option!)

  1. How old were you when you first went to the movie theatre? What movie did you see?
I know that my parents took me to movies when I was little, but I don't remember titles as much as lots of loud shooting (it was during World War II), and I always hid in my dad's lap. I think the first one I remember by name was “Pinocchio.” I would have been three, I guess.
  2. How old were you when you had your first child(ren)?
I was twenty-nine when U.D. was born, almost thirty-one when M.D. was born, and thirty-two when my Son was born. Yes, I had three children under three years old. Yes, it was hard. No, it was not impossible.
  3. How old were you when you had your first real kiss?
I am embarrassed to admit that I do not remember. I know I was at least sixteen, but I can't remember enough details (or who it was!) to put an exact date on it.
  4. How old were you when you went on your first roller coaster ride? Where was it?
I was eighteen, I believe. It was traditional for our crowd to go to Playland for certain celebrations, like post-graduation. My friend Bunny persuaded me to try it. My dad never rode roller coasters, so my siblings and I didn't do it either. Dad was right.
  5. When did you get your first cell phone?
Let's see, um, 2000? 2001? I finally decided it was time, and I wanted M.D. to have a better plan (and company) than the one she had. What's funnier? I got my second one last year. I got a good laugh out of the clerk when I brought in my big old clunker and said, “I have to upgrade this.”
  6. How old were you when you got your first car?
Remember, I did not get the automatic driving license at sixteen. I didn't drive till I was thirty-seven, and I drove Husband's car on weekends until I started temping again and really needed my own transportation. I think I was forty-six when I actually bought a new car of my own.
  7. How old were you when you started your first job? What was it? I had been babysitting since I was ten, but my first “grownup” jobs were when I was seventeen. That summer I worked in the Christmas Seal office, and in September I started working at the public library, where I worked until I was through college.
  8. What was your first alcoholic beverage?
The very first must have been ceremonial kosher wine. It was no big deal. I wrote about liking wine a long time ago. Aside from the champagne I had when at my son's wedding, I have not tasted alcoholic beverages for years.
  9. Where did you buy your first house?
I write about the Cheesebox a lot. Haven't you noticed? We're not moving-type of people. We bought the house in 1970.
  10. When did you start your first blog?
January 14, 2002, at Diaryland. For all my current complaints about Diaryland and the people who run it, I still have to be grateful for the space and the ease of starting. Gee, I think I wrote about that too, in Diaries Then and Now
