Remember David Gerrold?

Anybody who knows me know I love science fiction. Strangers who walk into my house and see “Star Trek” tapes may ask who the fan is; they are usually amazed that it's me. I don't understand why; in the days when I began reading sf, futuristic speculation was far more interesting than it is today. After all, so much that I read about then is no longer fiction but reality. (And think about all the stuff they missed!)

It was four years ago that I first wrote about David Gerrold and how much I enjoyed his writing. Last year I was delighted to comment on a new (to me) Gerrold book called The Martian Child. Great story.

Oh, how I love the internet. My “alter ego” Bev, a Californian whose pages I read regularly, actually knows David Gerrold. She told me a lot about him and his child; the story is largely based on the truth. Both U.D. and I were thrilled.

The best news was on Bev's page this morning. The film of “The Martian Child” is ready for release November 2. It has been in production so long that its fate was in doubt; even imdb is not much help (updated last April “changes still possible”). I don't go to movies a lot; there isn't much that can't wait till it's available on television. But I do want to see this one. Fortunately for me, the studios are issuing DVD's almost immediately. Hooray for the Martian child!
