Oh, No, No, No!

The internet community is a wondrous thing. We’ve all said it many times. We make friends, many of whom we will never meet face to face, and we learn to rejoice at their celebrations and to grieve when they are sad.
Over the years I’ve been journaling, I have mourned as my friends lost parents or spouses or — heaven forbid! — a child. No matter what age, it is just not right that a parent should have to bury a child. But this is the first time, as far as I know, that one of my buddies has died.
Denver Doug was, I think, the first regular diarist who was old enough to understand some of the things that my young friends just can’t see. Many of you knew him as Bastion on Diaryland or as Riddiger (the poet) on Xanga. His writings ranged from current events to his childhood and history, often describing what younger people have never heard of. It was strange how we could connect this way, having grown up on opposite sides of the country.
Doug has been in poor health these past few months. Two days ago, despite his strong will, he passed away.
We will miss you, my friend.
