Seven Years?

Fri., January 16, 07:58 PM

Is this all I’ve got after seven years? It’s seven years this week that I made a tentative beginning on D’land, and I just wasn’t in the mood for an anniversary. Am I all “written out”?

I was trying to find something — anything! — to write that wasn’t too serious. Thanks to my friend Dichroic, I have a subject. This meme makes the rounds from time to time.

  1. Grab the book nearest you. Right now.
  2. Turn to page 56.
  3. Find the fifth sentence.
  4. Post that sentence along with these instructions in your journal.
  5. Don't dig for your favorite book, the coolest, the most intellectual. Use the CLOSEST.

“They were usually given as betrothal presents, and the combined initials and date are often found carved on the sheaths; sometimes crosses are added for kisses, and a keyhole, denoting the door of their future home.”

Patterns for Guernseys, Jerseys & Arans, by Gladys Thompson.

Quite a sentence, huh?

Less successful for me but in a similar vein, my friend Bev wrote about a photo treasure hunt, in which you choose the fourth picture folder on your computer, post the fourth picture in that folder, and explain. The folder happens to be the photos from the May 2005 diarist tour, and I decided I couldn’t post any of those photos because I try to be more careful of people’s privacy, particularly those who have online personas. They’re not mine to share.

Maybe tomorrow I’ll do better; I can’t do much worse.
