Happier Times

Even though I felt like writing this morning, I had absolutely nowhere to go. My mind is elsewhere, chasing ideas that are not for public distribution. And my eye fell on this picture. It was part of a Christmas card, from — I think — 2006. It has been on my freezer for a while.

That’s Karen and Terry, at a happier time. I would like to remember the two of them that way.

What keeps it there? My stubbornness, for starters. But it is held in place by this:

If you can read it, you’ll see that it’s a souvenir of our “Diaristtour” in 2005. Karen made them for us, using graphics from our own D’land pages. (It’s authentic; I went back to the actual page.)

The joke’s on me. I have been reading Eleanor Coppola’s Notes on a Life. It is not a straight line chronology by any means. She comes across a photo or a souvenir in 2004, and it reminds her of something that happened in 1977, so the next entry is from 1977. It’s a little confusing, particularly since it is not indexed; I keep saying, “That’s not what she said last time…”

It seems as if I’ve been doing the same thing. It’s a survival mechanism, I guess.
